Kanye West to acquire a cryptocurrency-friendly social network that is an alternative to Twitter

American rapper Kanye West, known for his provocative statements, has decided to acquire Parler, a social networking site that bills itself as an alternative to Twitter with greater freedom of speech. The deal was announced on Twitter by Parler representatives.

The news that Kanye West decided to buy Rarler became known a week after his Twitter and Instagram pages were blocked for violating the services' policies. At the time, some users and representatives of the platforms accused the rapper of making anti-Semitic statements. Kanye West is known for his radicalism and provocativeness, and has previously spoken out in support of Donald Trump (who is also blocked on Twitter).

As for the rapper’s attitude to cryptocurrencies, a photo of West wearing aSatoshi Nakamoto cap recently went viral on social media. And in October 2020, during one of his performances, the rapper said: «The Bitcoin guys have the right vision of what the true liberation of America and humanity will look like.»

According to the representatives of Rarler, the new owner of the social network will help to create an «unbreakable ecosystem where all opinions are welcome». It is precisely for the opportunity to express their thoughts without hindrance that in the fall of 2020, most American conservatives announced the transition from Twitter and Facebook to Parler. The reason was the social media’s strict policy on speech. In the Twitter account of the then US President Trump, most of his statements were labeled as «unverified» by the social network administration.

While Kanye West is buying Rarler, Elon Musk, who is under investigation, has agreed to resume the process of buying Twitter on the original terms — $ 54.2 per share. This became known on October 7. The news that Musk could become the new owner of the social network caused a rather mixed reaction from the Twitter community. Dogecoin founder Bill Marcus tweeted: «If Elon Musk destroys Twitter, we won’t have to read all the stupid things people write here anymore. It’s a win-win.»
