Head of Korean cryptocurrency startup gets 25 years in prison
The CEO of a South Korean crypto investment platform has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend.
As it became known in court, the head of a crypto company named Kim (the man’s full name and company name were not disclosed) killed his girlfriend by pushing her out of a 19th-floor window. According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred in November 2021 — the couple had a fight and the girl said she wanted to end the relationship, and Kim responded by threatening to kill his «beloved» and pushed her out of the window.
Kim, who is called an «active crypto trader,» filed an appeal, hoping to mitigate the court’s decision. However, law enforcement officials emphasized that «the victim’s suffering was so severe that it is difficult to fully appreciate it,» so the 25-year sentence remains unchanged, as does the $ 2300 fine.
Recently, a similar incident occurred in Norway, where law enforcement officials reported that a millionaire had probably killed his wife. In order to cover his tracks by framing non-existent kidnappers, the millionaire used a darknet and VPN.
