Cyberpolice of Ukraine eliminates enemy bot farm

The cyber police of Ukraine managed to detect and dismantle a hostile bot farm that was spreading fake news on social media. The fake posts and comments on social media were published allegedly from ordinary Ukrainian citizens. The bot farm had at least 2,000 fake accounts. For each bot created, the offender received payment in rubles.

The illegal activity of the resident of Kamianets-Podilskyi was exposed by the Cybercrime Department in Khmelnytskyi region jointly with the Investigation Department of the regional police and the regional SBU Office. At his home, the offender organized the operation of a hardware and software complex to register a large number of social media accounts. The bot accounts were used to spread fake news and illegal content to spread negative sentiments in society.

«For each bot created, the offender received payment in rubles through electronic payment systems prohibited in Ukraine. Law enforcement officers searched the offender’s home and seized computer equipment, hundreds of SIM cards, GSM gateways and other specialized equipment and software,» said representatives of the National Police of Ukraine.

As a reminder, a few days ago, Ukraine’s cyber police arrested the developer of a remote access trojan (RAT), which allowed the hacker to infect more than 10,000 computers by passing off viruses as gaming programs. the 25-year-old attacker was exposed by officers of the Cybercrime Department of Khmelnytskyi region. At the time of the search, the hacker had almost 600 infected computers under his control, which he connected to in real time.
