NFT collector loses 100 Ethereum because he bought a cryptocurrency domain from himself

A well-known NFT collector registered under the pseudonym Franklinisbored lost 100 ETH due to his own unfortunate «joke».

As it has become known, Franklinisbored registered the ENS domain stop-doing-fake-bids-its-hoestly-lame-my-guy.eth (stop doing fake bids, it’s really stupid, my friend) through an alternative crypto wallet. The collector wanted to make fun of the ENS Bids Twitter bot, which posts high bids for domain purchases, so Franklinisbored placed his own bid of 100 ETH (about $ 148,900). The domain was not sold for some time, so Franklinisbored forgot about his bid. After a while, the «joker» sold the domain to an anonymous user for 1.9 ETH (about $ 2,830) — however, Franklinisbored forgot to cancel his bid. The user who bought the domain noticed the 100 ETN bid and immediately decided to sell it back to the joker.

«Oh no, I lost 100 ETH. I was celebrating my successful joke about selling the domain, talking about my profits. But because of my own greed, I forgot to cancel the purchase bid. I deserve all the ridicule and criticism I can get,» Franklinisbored wrote on Twitter.

However, the accidental loss of $ 148,900 may not seem so significant after the news of the deliberate rejection of $ 1 million. An anonymous investor offered the owner of the amazon. eth domain a million dollars for the purchase, but the ETH owner ignored the offer and it expired. Back on October 18, 2019, the amazon. eth domain was purchased for 100 ETH (approximately $ 20,000 at the time). Later, on February 8, 2022, the domain was purchased for 33 ETH (approximately $ 102,000 at the time). If amazon. eth had been sold, the user who purchased the domain in February would have received 1000% of the profit.
