Yuga Labs has filed a lawsuit against a digital artist who forged its NFT tokens

7:27 am, June 27, 2022

Yuga Labs, the founding company of the Bored Apes non-fungible token (NFT), has sued artist Ryder Ripps and several of his partners, accusing them of producing and selling «pseudo-NFTs» that devalue the originals, according to a scan of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims that the artist sought to «devalue Bored Apes' NFTs by flooding the NFT market with his own collection using original Bored Apes images and calling them 'RR/BAYC' NFTs».

The lawsuit states that NFT Bored Apes «are often resold for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, and prominent celebrities are proud owners of NFT Bored Apes». Particular emphasis is placed on the fact that there are only 10,000 Bored Apes NFTs and that each token is unique.

Yuga Labs is seeking an injunction that would prohibit Ripps and his partners from «further interference with the company’s prospective economic relations,» as well as damages and attorneys' fees.

The war between the company and Ryder Ripps began a long time ago — earlier Ripps said that he had «investigated and found evidence of BAYC’s ties to the Nazis.» The founders of BAYC denied these allegations.
