Portuguese Congress takes the side of cryptocurrency owners
Despite the previous statement by the Portuguese Finance Minister, the bills on the taxation of digital assets were not approved in Congress.
Portugal’s Congress rejected two bills aimed at taxing cryptocurrencies that were submitted by two leftist parties, Livre and Bloco. The ruling Socialist Party, which has a majority in the legislative assembly, has not yet presented any bills after Portuguese Finance Minister Fernando Medina announced that cryptocurrencies will be subject to taxation in the near future.
Thesame opinion is shared by Taxation Secretary Antonio Mendes, who announced the introduction of a tax on crypto assets in the near future.
According to the official, the Portuguese authorities are currently studying the taxation of digital currencies in other countries. After considering the issue, the agency will issue recommendations on the taxation of cryptocurrencies.
