Meta Corporation to launch a cryptocurrency wallet
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the creation of a digital wallet for the meta-universe — Meta Pay, which is a rebranding of Facebook Pay. In addition to the basic functions of Facebook Pay, the Meta Pay cryptocurrency wallet will allow users to securely manage their payments in meta universes.
Back in early May, Meta representatives filed a number of applications to re-register the Facebook Pay trademark for Meta Pay. At the time, the new platform was described as «an online service for investors that allows them to conduct financial transactions and exchange digital currency, virtual currency, cryptocurrency, digital and blockchain assets, digital tokens [Ñ–] crypto tokens.»
As Mark Zuckerberg explained in his post: «In the future, there will be many digital innovations that you will want to buy — digital clothing, music, art, videos, virtual events, etc. Proof of ownership will be important, especially if you want to move purchased items from one platform to another.»
Obviously, Zuckerberg doesn’t say or do anything «just for fun.» Last week, Meta announced the launch of an online digital clothing store for Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger users, so that everyone can buy branded items for their avatars. It is currently known that the store will feature items by Prada, Balenciaga, and Thom Browne, and, as Zuckerberg promised, the range will soon expand significantly, with users able to pay for purchases using the Meta Pay wallet.
As Meta emphasizes, one of the most important features of virtual shopping is its availability on different platforms. Thus, an item purchased in one meta-universe should «ideally» be synchronized with any other virtual world. All this is to make users feel as close to the real world as possible. It seems that Web3 technologies have long since crossed the line between the real and the virtual. Weddings, fashion weeks, museums, and educational institutions are already held in metaverse.
