Users of one of the most popular cryptocurrency wallets have been warned about a new hacker attack
The developers of the Trezor hardware wallet for cryptocurrencies have warned users about the activation of a phishing scheme on behalf of the company. Trezor representatives announced this on their Twitter page.
According to the wallet’s developers, fraudsters contact victims by phone, SMS, and/or email. Users are notified of an alleged security breach or suspicious activity in their Trezor account.
The attackers attach an address to a fake website in the emails. It appears to copy the design of the original Trezor version. However, the fraudulent copy asks victims to enter a passphrase. Once the victim enters it, they risk losing all their funds due to unauthorized access.
Trezor representatives stated that no unauthorized access to the platform’s database was detected. They also stated that they never contact customers by phone or SMS and urged users not to follow any links.
In November 2022, Trezor representatives recorded a 300% increase in sales after the FTX exchange went bankrupt. According to CEO Josef Tetek, Trezor’s sales volume was even higher than in 2021, when bitcoin set a historical high.
