Cryptocurrency exchange Binance helped find hackers who stole more than $ 200,000 in just 24 hours

Changpeng Zhao, CEO of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance, said that the platform’s cybersecurity service managed to identify the hackers who hacked the external interface of the non-custodial exchange KyberSwap.

As it became known, Binance representatives have identified two people who may be involved in the theft of $ 265,000 from the KyberSwap exchange. «We have provided information to the Kyber team and are coordinating with law enforcement,» Changpeng Zhao said.

on September 1, it became known that hackers had hacked the external interface of KyberSwap. The developers of the platform detected suspicious activity at the frontend level, and programmers found malicious code in the Google Tag Manager (GTM) tool. The exploit inserted false approvals for transactions, allowing hackers to withdraw funds from exchange customers to their own addresses.

It is worth noting that the exchange promised to pay the hackers a reward of 15% of the stolen funds if the fraudsters return the stolen money on their own. It is interesting to know what reward Binance representatives will receive if the persons they have identified turn out to be involved in the theft.

The situation with KyberSwap is not the only case when Binance helps hacked protocols identify attackers or recover some of the stolen assets. Last month, the exchange returned $ 450,000 stolen from the DeFi Curve Finance platform.
