Cryptocurrency exchange Uniswap blocks addresses associated with Tornado Cash mixer
Uniswap, a non-custodial exchange, has blocked 253 addresses associated with the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash. With the help of analytical firm TRM Labs, the addresses have been blacklisted for the past four months.
The exchange’s developer, Jordan Frankfurt, noted that initially, even those addresses that were only indirectly related to the sanctioned entities were blocked, but then the exchange narrowed the sample. Now, addresses from the sanctioned lists, as well as those directly related to Tornado Cash’s activities, are subject to blocking.
Over the past months, TRM Labs has classified and identified suspicious addresses into the following categories:
- -Sanctioned addresses
- addresses related to the Tornado Cash mixer
- stolen funds
- associated with scams and hacker attacks
- involved in known hacker groups
- used to finance terrorism
- involved in the distribution of child porn.
Uniswap representatives believe that cooperation with TRM Labs has brought the exchange’s security to a new level. In addition, the analytical company’s reports will now allow for more accurate identification of addresses associated with cybercrime.
In early August, the Uniswap Labs ecosystem development team asked the cryptocurrency community for $ 74 million to develop the company. The Uniswap Foundation (UF) wants to support the decentralized growth of the Uniswap protocol and ensure the stability of its own ecosystem.
