Cryptocurrency platform Nexo threatens anonymous user with a lawsuit

6:48 pm, June 27, 2022

Cryptocurrency lending platform Nexo has issued a rebuttal to allegations of illegal activity and promised to take legal action — all because of posts by an anonymous user Otteroooo on Twitter.

On June 26, the Otteroooo account posted a series of tweets accusing Nexo’s co-founder of stealing funds from the Help Karma charity. According to an anonymous person, back in 2020, Bulgarian journalists discovered the misuse of the foundation’s funds. The community reacted strongly to this information, actively commenting and sharing the posts.

«Nexo's founder and his family used the charity’s funds for sick children and built themselves a palace,» Otteroooo wrote in one of his tweets.

Later that day, Nexo published a refutation of Otteroooo’s words on its website, calling the tweets «slanderous» against the company. Having analyzed all the accusations, the firm found inconsistencies in the names and «acting characters.» Nexo believes that one of the anonymous person’s goals is to gain financial gain. Thus, the company published a screenshot of correspondence with Otteroooo, where an unknown user offered Otteroooo to buy his account.

«Please note that we always protect our rights and interests by all available legal means. Our lawyers in the United States and the United Kingdom are currently preparing a lawsuit that will be immediately filed in court for all facts of humiliation and defamation,» Nexo said. Nexo currently serves more than 4 million customers, and according to the company’s website, Nexo’s assets exceed $ 12 billion.

It is not yet known whether Otter’s charges have affected the company’s financial assets. However, given the reaction of users and the ongoing «cryptocurrency winter,» it can be assumed that Nexo will face difficulties. Many companies are currently going through hard times. Recently, the founder of the Bored Apes NFT collection, Gordon Goner, denied the company’s allegations of involvement in Nazism. Activist Ryder Ripps, who opposes BAYC and previously created a copy of the famous Bored Apes collection, published a video in which he «confirmed» BAYC’s ties to the Nazis. Currently, Yuga Labs has filed a lawsuit against Ryder Ripps for the production and sale of the «pseudo-NFT» Bored Apes.
