Cryptocurrency hackers hacked a famous musician’s Twitter to steal users' digital assets

10:41 am, October 3, 2022

Hackers have hacked the official Twitter account of the famous Spanish musician Bertin Osborne, with the aim of publishing phishing links to steal users' digital assets.

As it became known, the fraudsters acted according to a familiar scheme, advertising a fake distribution of the XRP cryptocurrency. Bertin Osborne’s account, which has 162,000 followers, retweeted messages related to Ripple and its CEO Brad Garlinghouse, thus hoping to add credibility to their scheme.

The hackers placed phishing links to token giveaways in the comments of posts that could be seen by a large number of people. By clicking on the link, users risk losing their cryptocurrency savings.

It is worth noting that attacks on the Twitter accounts of famous people and companies have become a common scheme of crypto fraudsters. At the end of September, hackers hacked the Twitter account of the Nigerian Business Day news outlet and published an announcement of a digital asset giveaway on behalf of the largest bitcoin owner, MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor. A similar situation occurred with the Brazilian office of the international consulting company PwC, a member of the Big Four, and the Indian cryptocurrency exchange CoinDCX — the purpose of the hacks was to post phishing links with an alleged distribution of XRP tokens.
