Starbucks cryptocurrency tokens are trading for thousands of dollars even before the official launch
The most popular coffee shop chain Starbucks has launched a beta version of its own NFTs as part of the Starbucks Odyssey loyalty program. To develop their Web3 initiative, Starbucks representatives signed a partnership agreement with the Polygon blockchain. Despite the fact that NFTs are still not available to the general public, the first users are already buying tokens for almost $ 2,000 per unit.
Since the launch of the Starbucks Odyssey beta, 360 NFTs have been sold on the Nifty Gateway token marketplace for more than $ 143,000. In December 2022, this was considered a low sales figure, as a fairly limited number of users were able to purchase tokens at the time.
The crypto community was surprised by something else: the price of the cheapest NFT asset in the Starbucks Odyssey program, Holiday Cheer Edition 1, is now at least $ 1,900. Interestingly, these tokens used to be distributed to loyalty program participants for free — it was enough to simply fulfill the promotional conditions or buy a token for cheap as a gift. Users assume that NFT owners have decided to speculate on the promising growth of the crypto asset and are acting proactively.
However, other NFT tokens from Starbucks are in much lower demand, and the price range for Nifty Gateway correlates between $ 69 and $ 285.
At the moment, holders of any Starbucks NFTs have no advantages over ordinary visitors to the popular coffee shop chain. The creators of the loyalty program once promised participants access to private events, international travel, and special bonuses. However, none of this has been realized yet.
