Cryptocurrency hacker from Poltava appropriated Binance users' tokens
A hacker from Poltava created malware that was used to steal passwords to accounts on the Binance crypto exchange and misappropriate user funds. The incident became known thanks to a court ruling published on the website of the Register of Court Decisions of Ukraine.
As soon as the user opened the malware file and logged into the exchange account, the cryptocurrency was automatically sent to the wallet specified in the software. The attacker reportedly acted in a similar manner not only on Binance but also on other crypto platforms.
After receiving digital assets, the man exchanged them for fiat currency at a Poltava exchange office. «It is impossible to find out which crypto wallets used the services of the exchange office, because this institution carries out its financial activities illegally,» law enforcement officers explained. Currently, the hacker’s property has been seized by the Poltava Court of Appeal.
While the Poltava resident misappropriated other people’s digital assets, the resident of Mykolaiv lost UAH 400,000to crypto fraudsters. the 35-year-old investor clicked on an unknown link on the Internet that urged users to invest in cryptocurrencies. The man transferred UAH 400,000 to the offenders' account, but never received the promised cryptocurrency. It is currently unknown which tokens the Ukrainian wanted to invest his savings in.
