Cryptocurrency trader loses $ 450,000 after clicking on a phishing link
A cryptocurrency trader lost $ 453,000 worth of PEPE tokens after following a phishing link. This became known from a post by Scam Sniffer on Twitter.
The attackers withdrew more than 356 billion tokens from the trader’s address 0x9eA2259B731CabD28fB39e0aCD4B671c93183F49 in two transactions. It is not yet known who the attackers were posing as and why the experienced cryptocurrency owner clicked on the unknown link.
Another user said in the comments to Scam Sniffer’s tweet that he lost 2.7 billion PEPE as a result of the same attack and is now looking for ways to get his money back.
The fraudsters' address 0xfd17816c81d27F073C9185b3BFae7F850310903f is associated with Inferno Drainer, a scam service that takes 20% of stolen tokens. Data from the Dune Analytics platform showed that the fraudsters were responsible for stealing more than $ 7 million worth of assets from 5,000 victims. Since March 27, they have created about 700 phishing sites focused on various trending projects.
As a reminder, another fraudulent service, Pink Drainer, stole about $ 110,000 by hacking the Twitter account of OpenAI C TO Mira Murati. The attackers used the account to advertise a fake cryptocurrency giveaway. According to Dune analysts, 880 addresses fell victim to the fraudsters, and the total value of the stolen cryptocurrency exceeded $ 2.3 million.
