Tron cryptocurrency is named the most environmentally friendly on the cryptocurrency market
Analysts at the Crypto Carbon Ratings Institute have found that the Tron blockchain’s DPoS algorithm requires significantly less electricity than PoW-based crypto mining. The blockchain institute conducted a study commissioned by the Tron Foundation. The published report states that Tron’s low power requirements make it one of the most environmentally friendly blockchains on the cryptocurrency market.
«Tron's consensus mechanism with delegated proof of stake (DPoS) contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint,» analysts say. The results are especially noticeable compared to HTS and ETN. The researchers report that the energy consumption of PoW blockchains such as BTH and ETH is now more than 83 million kWh and 22 million kWh, respectively.
«On Tron, the annual energy consumption for more than 2.31 billion transactions was 162,868 kWh. This is about 99.9% less than the power consumed by BTH and ETH,» the report says.
The exact time of the Ethereum network merger (Merge) is already known — the largest update of the project will take place on September 14 at 22:57:34 (Kyiv time). It is expected to reduce the energy consumption in Ethereum by about 10 thousand times. Currently, Ethereum on the PoW mechanism uses from 0.1% to 0.3% of all electricity generated in the world. After switching to PoS, consumption will be reduced to almost zero.
