Quentin Tarantino and Miramax agree to issue cryptocurrency tokens
Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino and the American film company Miramax have reached an agreement to settle a lawsuit filed by Miramax representatives back in 2021 — from now on, Quentin Tarantino has the right to release his own NFT collection based on the movie Pulp Fiction.
All the details of the agreement are not yet known, but representatives of both parties summarized: «We have agreed to put the lawsuit behind us and look forward to collaborating on future projects, including collections of non-fungible tokens,» the joint statement of Tarantino and Miramax representatives reads.
As it became known, back in November last year, Miramax filed a lawsuit against the director over his planned launch of an NFT collection based on Pulp Fiction. The problem, according to Miramax, was that the non-fungible tokens contained sections of the original handwritten script written by Quentin Tarantino and his exclusive audio commentary. According to Miramax’s legal representatives, the director violated the terms of the contract and the copyright to the film, the profits from which belong to the film company.
However, at the time, lawyer Brian Friedman argued that his client Tarantino had the right to sell NFTs with fragments of the work, as he had the copyright to the film’s script. Tarantino’s agreement with Miramax stipulated that he had the right to produce printed materials related to the film. This includes the publication of scripts, books and comics, including in audio and electronic formats, as well as other interactive publications.
At the time of writing, it is not known what decisions have been made by representatives of Miramax and Quentin Tarantino and what the director’s future NFT collection will look like. However, we will follow the developments.
