The man who claims to have created bitcoin will sue 16 of its developers

10:16 pm, February 4, 2023

The British media reported that the UK Court of Appeal ruled that the lawsuit filed by entrepreneur Craig Wright against 16 developers of the flagship cryptocurrency should be heard in a London court. The case was initially dismissed in March 2022.

According to official data, the document filed by Wright stated that the developers have «fiduciary duties» and «duty of care» to control the bitcoin network. In its decision, the Court of Appeals stated that the lawsuit is a «serious matter that needs to be considered.»

Law enforcement officials provided grounds for granting Wright’s appeal. First of all, they noted that the relevant area of law is gradually developing and evolving. They emphasized that it is not clearly defined, thus requiring additional judicial review.

In 2021, the High Court of London allowed Craig Wright’s lawyers to serve the relevant claim documents on 16 developers of the HTS network, even if they do not live in the UK. According to CityAM, the legal representative said that the Court of Appeal decided to transfer the case to another body, as 14 of the 16 defendants lived outside the jurisdiction of the court. A full hearing is tentatively scheduled for 2024.

Craig Wright is a scientist and IT specialist who has become famous for repeatedly claiming that he is the creator of the bitcoin cryptocurrency, and it was he who used the name Сатоші Накамото" href="https://noworries.media/biography/satoshi-nakamoto/" data-bio-id="4232">Satoshi Nakamoto. Recently, he even stated that he did not want to prove his authorship anymore.

However, in October 2022, a Norwegian state court finally ruled that the developer had no evidence of digital gold development and lied about his status. According to law enforcement officials, Wright’s claims were unfounded and that is why he lost the case to Magnus Granat, known online as Hodlonaut.
