Facebook parent company to launch crypto exchange

6:17 pm, May 18, 2022

A few days ago, representatives of Meta filed a number of applications for the re-registration of the Meta Pay trademark. According to published data, the tech giant intends to launch its own crypto exchange.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has filed five trademark applications in the United States for a new digital platform called Meta Pay. The MetaPay.com domain name and the option to register such a brand were purchased from South Dakota-based MetaBank in a $ 60 million deal in December 2021.

In the trademark applications, Meta Pay is described as «an online service for investors that allows them to conduct financial transactions and exchange digital currency, virtual currency, cryptocurrency, digital and blockchain assets, digital tokens [Ñ–] crypto tokens.»

In addition to payment and trading, Meta Pay may also include lending in the form of digital assets and investment services. These possibilities are outlined in the trademark application.

Earlier, the media published rumors that the NFT marketplace is about to be launched on Instagram and Facebook.
