Meta plans to charge 47.5% transaction fees in its meta universe

3:35 pm, April 13, 2022

Facebook’s parent company has announced its plans to charge the highest possible commission on the Horizon Worlds platform, which is predicted to be the centerpiece of the brand’s virtual ecosystem. The commission will be paid for the return of any virtual assets, whether they are items or services.

47.5% is taken from two components (and yes, this is official information, once again confirmed by the company’s representatives after a request from journalists): «hardware fee» in the amount of 30% of sales (meaning the Meta Quest store commission) and a commission directly from Horizon Worlds in the amount of 17.5%.

It is logical that this brazen position angered Twitter users. And it is understandable — for example, Open Sea (a popular NFT platform) takes only 2.5%. Its competitor LooksRare charges even less — 2%. At the same time, Meta representatives call their solution competitive.

We would like to remind you that Zuckerberg recently criticized Apple for taking 30% of the developers' commission in the App Store. Well, impudence is the second happiness…
