A series about the death (?) of the CEO of the QuadrigaCX crypto exchange was released on Netflix
The story of the QuadrigaCX exchange collapse and the unexpected death of its CEO has become so well known that a documentary was made about it.
The general plot of the movie is as follows: a group of defrauded investors who were forced to retrain as detectives are investigating the death of CEO Gerald Cotten, trying to find several hundred million dollars. According to the investors, it was he who stole the money and then faked his death.
What really happened? on December 9, 2018, Gerald Cotten died in the Indian city of Jaipur after suffering a second cardiac arrest at the age of 30. For a long time, he suffered from Crohn’s disease and on the day of his death, he was the sole owner of private keys to cold wallets with assets worth $ 137 million. At least that’s what the official version says.
There are more than enough facts for conspiracy theorists:
- The will was executed 2 weeks before his death
- Cotten warned his family about his possible disappearance
- Cotten was repeatedly involved in fraudulent financial transactions
- His name was spelled incorrectly in the death certificate
- The staff of the private clinic where the patient died was caught more than once in fraud
- Only Cotten had access to the exchange’s assets (access to his personal laptop was never obtained)
The movie was called «Trust No One: The Hunt for the King of Cryptocurrencies». We would like to add that if you keep assets on the exchange, they are already the assets of the exchange.
