12:47 pm, November 16, 2022

The National Agency of Ukraine for Asset Recovery and Management (ARMA) has started cooperation with the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges to exchange information that can be used to identify and trace stolen cryptocurrencies. This was reported by ARMA representatives on the agency’s official website.

«The National Agency has established communication channels and interaction with five major crypto exchanges ,» the ARMA said, but did not provide detailed information about the platforms. From now on, ARMA has gained access to confidential data of the exchange’s customers, namely

  • identity documents
  • e-mail addresses
  • IP addresses;
  • the name and IMEI of the device used to log in to the cryptocurrency exchange account;
  • information about the operations performed;
  • availability of additional cryptocurrency wallets and bank accounts;
  • account numbers to which funds are withdrawn.

The ARMA also emphasized that cooperation with cryptocurrency exchanges will allow to additionally establish the existence of digital assets of the persons involved in criminal proceedings and will help to increase the effectiveness of cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

The National Asset Recovery and Management Agency of Ukraine already has experience in investigating crypto fraud. In early July, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office detained criminals who helped users from Russia and residents of the so-called L/DNR convert fiat currency into cryptocurrency without paying taxes. At that time, the ARMA received UAH 50 million and 830 kg of silver seized from the suspects.
