The reward for finding bugs in the Ethereum blockchain has been doubled

1:15 pm, March 25, 2023

As the long-awaited Shapella update is about to be integrated into the main blockchain network, the Ethereum Foundation has increased the bounty for bug detection.

During the 105th All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC) conference, Ethereum Foundation security specialist Fredrik Svantes announced that the maximum reward for finding a vulnerability in the Shanghai/Capella update has been doubled from $ 250,000 to $ 500,000.

This is not the first time the organization has expanded its bug bounty program. Earlier, the Ethereum Foundation announced a fourfold increase in payouts before the blockchain’s transition to Proof-of-Stake.

The Bug Bounty program offers financial compensation to individuals or groups that have discovered security flaws or vulnerabilities in an organization’s systems. In the case of Ethereum, the bounty depends on the severity, which is calculated according to the OWASP risk rating model.

Preparations for the update, also known as Shanghai-Capella, are in full swing, with the launch scheduled for April 12 in block 6,209,536. The main updates will include the ability to withdraw funds from staking and optimization of commission costs (gas).
