The world’s largest cryptocurrency fraudster faces up to 140 years in prison thanks to new charges
Сем Бенкман-Фрід" href="https://noworries.media/biography/sem-benkman-frid/" data-bio-id="3697">Sam Bankman-Fried, the notorious founder of the bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange, has been charged with four more criminal charges. According to preliminary estimates by analysts, the fraudster faces more than 100 years in prison, and if convicted on the latest charges, he could be jailed for 140 years.
It is worth noting that Benkman-Fried pleaded not guilty to any of the 12 criminal charges related to customer deception and fraud. According to the latest information from the prosecutor’s office, Sam Benkman-Fried is suspected of making tens of millions in illegal political donations to protect himself and his business. Earlier, there were rumors that the ex-CEO of FTX bribed the US Democrats and that is why he remained at large.
Currently, Sam Bankman-Fried is under house arrest, but the fraudster may return to prison if he continues to use the Internet. Judge Lewis Kaplan warned him about this at the next hearing in the FTX case. Kaplan expressed skepticism about how much the former CEO of the crypto exchange could be trusted, leaving him in a house with Internet access while awaiting trial. To contact potential witnesses and try to influence their testimony, SBF used the secure instant messaging app Signal.
As a reminder, at the end of December 2022, FTX partners, former Alameda Research chairman Caroline Ellison and FTX co-founder Gary Wang pleaded guilty to 11 charges. Allison faces up to 110 years in prison, and Wang — 50.
