Spain’s largest airline to start accepting bitcoin
Vueling Airlines has signed an agreement with the BitPay payment system, which will allow the airline’s customers to pay for tickets using cryptocurrency.
As reported in PRNewswire, the airline will use the UATP (Universal Air Travel Plan) system, which supports cryptocurrency payments for all types of transportation.
Customers will be able to pay with 13 different cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin and ethereum. The service will be available on the company’s website in 2023. Ticket prices will be displayed in euros, but customers will be able to pay for their flights with cryptocurrency from more than 100 wallets.
«With this agreement, Vueling reaffirms its position as a digital airline. We are very pleased to have found the best partner in BitPay, which offers our customers the opportunity to conduct cryptocurrency transactions with the highest security and reliability,» — said Jesus Monzo, Vueling’s partnership manager.
Vueling emphasizes that it understands the potential of cryptocurrencies and their importance in transforming the air travel industry by making payments faster, safer, and less expensive on a global scale. The same opinion is supported by Emirates Airlines, the largest airline in the United Arab Emirates, which plans to use bitcoin as a means of payment and launch its own non-fungible tokens.
