Britain’s most popular cryptocurrency named — it’s not bitcoin
Google Trends researchers have conducted a year-long analysis of Google users' cryptocurrency-related searches, and the most popular digital asset among UK residents is the Shiba Inu (SHIB) token.
According to Google Trends, neither bitcoin nor ethereum managed to outperform Shiba Inu in terms of the number of searches in 2022. In addition to the UK, SHIB has become the most popular cryptocurrency in seven European countries, including France and Italy.
Other cryptocurrencies that Europeans are most interested in are Cardano (ADA) and Dogecoin (DOGE). According to crypto experts, the presence of two meme tokens in the top five means that Europe is ready to introduce not only the usual bitcoin and ethereum, but also cryptocurrencies that are not taken seriously in other parts of the world. «Although bitcoin is the most popular in the world, interest in Shiba Inu has managed to surpass bitcoin in European countries, including the UK,» said a representative of the Google Trends research team.
As the cryptocurrency meme gains popularity, users are increasingly thinking about the death of bitcoin when searching for such information on Google. Thus, in late June, the collapse of bitcoin prices revived new speculations about the demise of the leading cryptocurrency according to Google search trends. on June 18, the number of Google searches for «bitcoin is dead «increased dramatically and probably reached the highest level ever recorded.
The topic of bitcoin’s death is also used by leading tech media, which has already called the flagship cryptocurrency dead 461 times, counting almost from the beginning of the BTC’s existence.
