Unknown attackers stole millions of dollars from Solana-based crypto wallets
About 8,000 wallets on the Solana network were affected by the cyberattack, which is still being investigated.
Initially, blockchain researchers from OtterSec reported the devastation of more than 5000 wallets in just a few hours. The transactions were signed by the owners, which, according to experts, implies a compromise of the private key. It is believed that the hackers managed to empty the cryptocurrency wallets of Slope, TrustWallet, and Phantom users.
According to some reports, the wallets that have been inactive for more than six months have suffered the most. This has not yet been officially confirmed by the developers of Solana Labs, who are investigating the causes of the large-scale failure.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao also advised investors to send their crypto assets to cold wallets or centralized exchanges. PeckShield experts have preliminarily estimated the damage at $ 8 million.
