Nike plans to release a gadget — smart sneakers
Nike has become one of the largest fashion brands to enter the Web3 world, all thanks to RTFKT, a startup acquired by Nike at the end of 2021. Since then, the sports giant has been developing in a new direction to present its fans with a unique gadget — smart sneakers Cryptokicks iRL.
According to Nike representatives, Cryptokicks iRL are equipped with an automatic lacing function, backlighting, tactile feedback, gait recognition, app connectivity, AI/ML algorithms, and wireless charging via RTFKT Powerdeck. The main task of the owner of such a gadget is to monitor the health of their special pair of sneakers.
Cryptokicks iRL sneakers are available in four colors: «Blackout», «Ice», «Stone», and «Space Matter», the latter of which is particularly bright. Each pair is sold with its own unique NFT. Nike representatives expect an instant sale of all sneakers, as the number of pairs is limited to 19,000. The owners of the RTFKT Lace Engine NFT will be able to get their pair from December 12 to 16 for 0.38 ETH (approximately $ 478 at the current exchange rate). If the NFT holders do not purchase all the sneakers, other users will be able to buy the remaining pairs for 0.5 ETH (approximately $ 630 at the current exchange rate).
As a reminder, in late August, Nike earned $ 185 million from the sale of NFTs. Thus, one of the largest sports corporations in the world has become the most powerful brand earning money from digital assets. At the time, experts suggested that Nike’s success from the sale of NFT was made possible by a combination of branding, advertising, and high-quality marketing.
