Neil Stephenson will develop his own blockchain to launch the meta-universe

5:30 pm, June 9, 2022

American science fiction writer Neil Stephenson, who was the first to coin the term «metaverse,» will launch his own blockchain project focused on metaverse.

According to Stevenson’s blog post, he is launching a new project called LAMINA1 together with former Bitcoin Foundation chairman Peter Wessens. According to the founders, LAMINA1 will be a first-level blockchain that will become the basic solution for an open meta-universe.

«It will be a place that we will try to bring closer to Neil Stephenson’s vision — a place that privileges creative people. It will provide support for spatial computing technologies and the community that will develop it,» said the former head of the Bitcoin Foundation.

The creators assure that the new metaverse will not be a product of corporations seeking to monopolize the field. The co-founders will focus on the rapid launch of the blockchain — currently, all efforts are aimed at attracting investments, business partners, and artists.

Recently, Unity CEO John Riccitello expressed his opinion that in the next few years, most websites will move to the meta-universe. Therefore, projects that want to remain popular need to start preparing for migration.
