New iPhone 14 features help save tourists who fell into the abyss

10:16 am, December 16, 2022

The crash detection and emergency satellite communication feature on the iPhone 14 helped rescue tourists who had crashed their car into a canyon. Rescuers managed to save the people using a helicopter.

As it became known, two tourists were traveling by car on a highway in Angeles National Preserve, California. The driver lost control and the car fell into a canyon to a depth of more than 90 meters. At that moment, the iPhone 14 of one of the passengers detected the accident.

The victims managed to get out of the car, but there was apparently no mobile coverage in the canyon. The rescuers were able to contact them thanks to an emergency satellite communication service — the tourists sent a message with their coordinates. To rescue them, a helicopter and a rescue team had to be used. The tourists' lives are currently not in danger.

Perhaps, after the successful rescue thanks to the iPhone 14 update, developers will integrate the accident detection function and emergency satellite communication into the future smart ring from Apple. It became known a few days ago that the company is working on the new product. According to Patently Apple, the device will allow tracking heart rate, blood oxygen level, and blood pressure.
