A new tool for users of the Tornado Cash cryptomixer will help confirm the legitimacy of cryptocurrencies

6:13 pm, January 23, 2023

Chainway developers have released a tool that will allow users of the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash to anonymously prove that their deposits do not contain stolen funds.

The Proof of Innocence service will allow cryptocurrency investors to create a list of malicious wallets they do not want to deal with. Then, using cryptography, users will be able to prove that their crypto wallets have not interacted with the blacklist. At the same time, the entire procedure takes place in complete anonymity.

Chainway representatives noted that the service is aimed at improving the security and reliability of the system. The developers also want to enable Tornado Cash users to withdraw their funds without any problems. Currently, a similar procedure is available directly in the cryptomixer itself, but the user has to provide his or her wallet address for the operation, which undermines privacy.

As a reminder, on August 8, 2022, OFAC added Tornado Cash to the sanctions list on suspicion of laundering more than $ 7 billion in cryptocurrencies. The service was used, in particular, by the Binance-znajshla-ta-povernula-kryptovalyutu-vykradenu-hakeramy-z-koreyi/">North Korean hacker group Lazarus Group. And recently it became known that a crypto wallet associated with the Nomad Bridge exploit also used the cryptomixer — hackers transferred $ 1.57 million (over 1200 ETH) there.
