New cryptocurrency scandal on Twitter — fraudsters impersonate Ethereum founder and steal cryptocurrency

Cointelegraph specialists have identified 6 Twitter accounts with the well-known blue profile verification checkmark impersonating Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. The attackers targeted the funds of gullible investors.

Obviously, the approach of The Merge has caused a wave of speculation on Ethereum and has become a good opportunity for cryptocurrency fraudsters to get other people’s money. Fake Vitalik Buterin posted on Twitter that on the eve of the transition to the «green» blockchain, the Ethereum Foundation would give users 50,000 to 100,000 ETH for free (different bots promise different amounts of crypto gifts).

The easiest way to identify fakes is to pay attention to the nickname (placed in the tweet under the nickname with a checkmark). This is how users verify the authenticity of Elon Musk and Changpeng Zhao's accounts, which are often impersonated by fraudsters.
