Nvidia to cease operations in Russia by the end of the month

6:26 pm, October 3, 2022

Nvidia, an American graphics processor company that suspended sales of its products in the terrorist country in March, will close its Russian office by the end of October. Local media report that the company is «actively taking out on chartered planes» those who agree to relocate to other countries and do not mind working in local offices there. The remaining employees were offered to resign by mutual agreement. The reason for closing the office was «the inability to guarantee the effective work of employees».

Nvidia itself did not comment on the information about the expulsion of employees from the country, but confirmed plans to close the office. A company spokesperson said that contracts with those who wanted to stay in Russia were terminated, and all those who were fired were paid their salaries.

As a reminder, in July, Nvidia stopped selling new cloud gaming software licenses to Russian companies and stopped renewing old ones. Earlier, China announced that it would compete with Nvidia in the development of artificial intelligence chips. It is worth noting that the new US sanctions package against China includes a ban on the supply of production accelerators based on GPUs.

At the end of September, Nvidia introduced processors for processing artificial intelligence, as well as a number of services for IT developers. The tech giant’s CEO Jensen Huang announced a new generation of GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. The chips contain up to 76 billion transistors. The key features of the new architecture are the third generation of RT cores and the fourth generation of tensor cores.
