One of the largest US energy companies plans to start mining bitcoin

5:50 pm, July 4, 2022

The US energy company Duke Energy is considering bitcoin mining and plans to integrate this activity into its demand response strategy.

According to Duke Energy representatives, in the future, the company will focus on ensuring the reliability of power supply and bitcoin mining. The company will use its network provided by various energy sources to conduct test runs with the participation of miners of different levels.

Mining has been criticized by environmentalists due to excessive energy consumption, which they believe leads to environmental degradation. That is why the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has repeatedly called on the US authorities to regulate the process of cryptocurrency mining and limit mining. However, last week, the US Supreme Court banned the establishment of emission limits and restrictions on mining. Earlier, the White House promised to propose a law that would regulate bitcoin mining and its impact on energy and climate. It is expected that the draft law will be published in August.
