One of the most popular cryptocurrencies has fallen in price amid accusations of code theft

The value of one of the most popular meme cryptocurrencies, Shiba Inu, fell by 5.2% per day and 15.4% per month. This happened amid accusations that the token’s team stole the code to create the second-level solution Shibarium.

Members of the Shiba Inu crypto community believe that the developers used the code of another project, Rinia, to create the Shibarium blockchain. The beta version of Shibarium was launched on March 11, 2023.

Shibarium is a second-level blockchain (L2). According to the developers, Shibarium can increase network speed and reduce commissions.

A participant of the project’s Discord channel under the nickname STEVE discovered that the Shibarium blockchain identifier (Chain ID) coincides with the identifier of another blockchain, Rinia.

Assigning the same Chain ID to two different blockchains, STEVE noted, will lead to the fact that the user will not be able to interact with the blockchain of interest — the system will refer to another blockchain.

«Why does it look like they took the Rinia genesis file to create the Shibarium testnet, changed the name, but forgot to change the Chain ID?» STEVE asked the Shiba Inu developers.

The developers and some users of the network claim that STEVE’s accusations lack evidence. Some members of the Shiba Inu community admitted that the coincidences look suspicious, but borrowing code in the crypto space is a normal practice.

Despite the developers' attempts to reduce the degree of tension, Shiba Inu reacted to the accusations by dropping its price. At the time of writing, the token is trading at $ 0.1 062. As a reminder, in February, Shiba Inu fell by 33%.
