One of the largest cryptocurrency wallet manufacturers has released an extension for Apple’s Safari browser

5:12 pm, March 17, 2023

Ledger, one of the largest manufacturers of hardware cryptocurrency wallets, has introduced a browser extension for Apple’s Safari, based on iOS and macOS. The developers announced the new product on their official website.

The extension, called Ledger Extension, allows wallet owners to connect to NFT marketplaces (such as OpenSea) or decentralized applications (such as Uniswap and 1inch) directly through the browser. Ledger Extension supports both applications based on the Ethereum blockchain and the Polygon sidechain.

The extension also checks smart contracts connected to the wallet for fraud, Carl Anderson, vice president of engineering at Ledger, told TechCrunch in an interview. Moreover, the extension will simulate a transaction to show how the connected protocol intends to interact with the cryptocurrency wallet.

At the time of writing, Ledger Extension is in beta testing. Therefore, Ledger Extension is currently available only for owners of the Ledger Nano X hardware wallet. In the future, it is expected that the extension will receive support for Windows, as well as Chrome, Brave, Opera, Edge, and Firefox browsers. It is unknown whether the extension will work with other hardware wallets of the Ledger line.

As a reminder, in December 2022, it became known about the launch of a new cryptocurrency wallet from Ledger. The device is made in the format of a credit card with a large E link display, Bluetooth support, wireless charging, and a touch screen.
