One of the largest cryptocurrency frauds linked to Hamas terrorists uncovered
Cybercriminals are exploiting the military conflict between Israel and Hamas for cryptocurrency scams. According to a report by BleepingComputer, numerous posts on Platform X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, and Instagram point to fraudsters posing as charities and soliciting donations in digital assets.
In fact, the fraudulent accounts filled with dubious crypto wallet addresses are not affiliated with any official charitable organization. Analysts emphasize that criminals manipulate the emotions of social media users by posting graphic images of war victims.
One such account, «Gaza Relief Aid» on X, uses the domain aidgaza.xyz. Although it claims to be an «Islamic Relief Initiative», it is not supported by any recognized charitable organization. Aside from some «press releases» and images of war victims, the site does not contain any information about the volunteers or NGOs behind it. The account operators provided their Ethereum, Bitcoin and USDT addresses for donations. However, BleepingComputer did not find any crypto transactionsg.
Similarly, accounts claiming to support Israel and the country’s affected citizens are spreading. For example, the «Donate for Israel» account on X has a linked crypto wallet with zero transactions, which raises additional doubts about its legitimacy.
BleepingComputer urges users to be careful when they come across such publications on the Internet, as fraudsters often use emotional hooks and visual effects to encourage people to make a donation. It is noted that cybercriminals accept a wide range of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and Litecoin.
Analysts advise checking the legitimacy of any organization that collects donations before making a contribution. Legitimate charities provide transparent information about their activities and the use of funds.
