Rating of losses among the largest cryptocurrency holders published
The protracted bear market and large-scale cryptocurrency bankruptcies have affected most members of the crypto community, and large investors have not been left behind. According to Statista, as of December 1, 2022, cryptocurrency billionaires have lost more than $ 112 billion in total.
Changpeng Zhao, the head of the world’s largest crypto exchange Binance, suffered the biggest losses. According to experts, his losses are estimated at $ 82 billion. The second place was taken by the imprisoned ex-executive of the bankrupt FTX platform Sam Beckman-Fried with losses of $ 23 billion.
A relatively smaller amount, about $ 4.7 billion, was lost by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. The fourth place was taken by FTX co-founder Gary Wang, who lost minus $ 1.7 billion. Ripple founder Chris Larsen rounds out the top five, with a loss of about $ 1.3 billion in 2022.
It is worth noting that Changpeng Zhao remains the wealthiest person in the digital asset sector with a net worth of over $ 14.6 billion, although just a year ago he controlled assets worth $ 96.5 billion.
As for Sam Bankman-Fried, on November 30, the FTX founder said that he had less than $ 100,000 left in his accounts. However, even this amount will not help SBF, who is being held in the worst prison in the Bahamas, Fox Hill, until February 8, 2023, without the possibility of bail.
The official indictment accuses Benkman-Fried of defrauding FTX clients since 2019. The ex-billionaire is also suspected of making tens of millions in illegal political donations to protect himself and his business. Legal experts have emphasized that there is a high probability that the businessman will be sentenced to life imprisonment.
