A batch of new cryptocurrency mining rigs was sold in 27 seconds

12:43 pm, December 21, 2022

Bitcoin mining hardware company Bitmain has announced that its new Antminer HNS HS3 device was sold out in a record 27 seconds. One customer could purchase no more than 5 units, but this did not prevent miners from buying the entire batch of new equipment at once.

According to Bitmain representatives, Antminer cost $ 2092 per unit, which is considered to be a fairly low price. The new device offers a hashrate of 9 TH/s (terakhashes per second) and has a power of 2079 watts. The only flagship unit available for purchase at the moment is the Antminer S19 XP with a hash rate of 134 TH/s. However, its price is three times higher — $ 6164 per unit.

Currently, miners are going through hard times, as mining profitability has dropped significantly in 2022. Some mining companies are selling off cryptocurrency mining rigs, hoping to cover losses due to the fall in the value of digital assets on the market. The sale of equipment is also driven by the need to pay off loans that have not paid off — during the period of rising cryptocurrency prices, mining companies actively purchased machines and rented premises for them, often on credit.

It is worth noting that today it became known that one of the largest mining companies in the United States went bankrupt. Core Scientific cannot repay the debt for the leased mining equipment despite generating positive cash flow. The funds at Core Scientific’s disposal are not enough to service the growing debt.
