A Ukrainian lost UAH 400,000 in cryptocurrency after following a fraudulent link
According to the Mykolaiv region police, cryptocurrency fraudsters stole UAH 400,000 from a resident of Mykolaiv, who wanted to invest in digital assets. Realizing that he had been deceived, the unfortunate investor turned to law enforcement agencies.
As it became known, the 35-year-old local resident clicked on an unknown link on the Internet that urged users to invest in cryptocurrencies. The man transferred 400,000 hryvnias to the offenders' account, but never received the promised cryptocurrency. It is currently unknown which tokens the Ukrainian wanted to invest his savings in.
Hackers often pretend to be representatives of well-known companies in emails, text messages, or advertisements on websites. Having gained the trust, the attackers try to force users to invest in an unknown cryptocurrency, promising impressive profits. Apparently, this is the scheme that the Ukrainian fell for. The cyber police have already launched an investigation.
Another Ukrainian citizen who was unlucky with his investment, Yuriy Popovych, became aware of his material losses at the end of May (after the Terra collapse). Popovych invested about $ 10,000, which was his family’s entire savings, in the UST stablecoin and lost almost everything. «This is a huge amount for us, and in the current situation, it is critically important for life. I fear for my wife’s health, my health and our relationship. I don’t even know how this will end ,» Yuriy said at the time, when his wife did not know about the family’s investment in stablecoin.
