The first iPhone was auctioned for a record $ 100,000
An unpacked first-generation iPhone smartphone with 4 GB of RAM has been put up for auction, Apple Insider reports.
According to the portal, devices launched on the gadget market more than 16 years ago are in great demand among collectors. Enthusiasts are especially «hunting» for those models that have never been taken out of the original box. The LCG Auctions auction house expects to fetch $ 100,000 for the lot.
This year, in March, the American auction house Wright also put up the unpacked first iPhone with a unique «Lucky You» sticker. At that time, it was purchased by tech blogger Marques Brownlee, known as MKBHD. The collector unpacked the lot on his YouTube channel, and the smartphone cost him $ 40,000.
The first-generation iPhone was unveiled on January 9, 2007, by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco.
As a reminder, after the successful sale of an unpacked first-generation iPhone at an auction in the United States, Apple put up for sale the company’s largest collection of rare gadgets. The auction featured more than 500 Apple computers assembled between 1977 and 2008. Rare models cost between $ 10,000 and $ 20,000, while the company’s mass-produced devices were estimated at $ 300−500. Along with the computers, the Apple QuickTake 100 camera and the company’s proprietary joystick used with Apple IIE and Apple IIC computers were sold.
