North Korea’s cryptocurrency hackers topped the anti-rating
According to analysts at Coincub, which compiles quarterly cryptocurrency rankings, North Korea has become the country with the highest number of cryptocurrency crimes.
According to analysts, more than 7,000 hackers from North Korea have caused material damage to the entire crypto community. Currently, there are more than 15 open criminal proceedings against the attackers, whose damage from hacker attacks is estimated at almost $ 2 billion.
The second place is occupied by America, due to the scale of the underground crypto economy and a number of high-profile scams. Thus, 14 cases of cryptocurrency crimes with revenues of more than $ 2 billion have been documented in the United States. The presence of a large number of hacker gangs in Russia allowed it to take third place in the ranking. According to Cision journalists, the Russian government often supports crypto hackers.
The fourth and fifth places are occupied by China and the United Kingdom, with large-scale Ponzi schemes and numerous profits from cyberattacks. The top ten countries with the highest number of cryptocurrency crimes also include Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, the Virgin Islands, and the Seychelles.
The issue of combating crypto hackers remains open, as it is quite difficult to track their activities. However, there are countries that are taking decisive steps to reduce crime in the virtual space. Among them is Japan, where they are considering amending the Law on the Seizure of Stolen Assets to include provisions for the seizure of cryptocurrency. It is hoped that the new legal procedure will reduce illegal activities through digital assets. A similar scheme is already in place in the UK. They have recently confiscated crypto assets derived from criminal activity.
