Popular streamer catches crypto fraudster trying to steal $ 450,000 in bitcoin

The Kraken cryptocurrency exchange has created a fake account for the famous streamer Kitboga in order to catch a crypto fraudster hiding under the name Joe Biden. The blogger told his 188 thousand Twitter followers about it. By the way, this is not the first time Kitboga has met the fraudster — the streamer already met Biden more than a year ago.

The blogger has gained popularity for his phone pranks exposing scams. To fool the fraudster this time, Kitboga pretended to be an elderly woman who owns $ 450,000 in bitcoin. The attacker «tricked» the streamer into downloading software for remote access to the computer screen. This way, the scammer saw the victim’s account on the Kraken platform and the amount of funds on it. After that, the criminal allegedly convinced the «elderly woman» to transfer all the funds to him. The fraudster was excited about the potential exploit, but quickly became furious when the «victim» entered the wallet address incorrectly.

It is noteworthy that the scammer provided the blogger with the true address of his BTC wallet hosted on Kraken. This allows the crypto exchange to identify him and further monitor fraudulent activities.

Later, it became known that Kitboga was working with Kraken’s head of security Nick Percoco.

Currently, the blogger has 1.2 million subscribers on Twitch and 3 million subscribers on YouTube. Kitboga comments on his activity as follows: «Every day, there are scammers out there trying to defraud people. I discourage attackers from wasting their time on me by showing people fraud scenarios and the lies that thieves use. I also shed light on confusing situations in any other way.»

As a reminder, a recent McAfee study showed that in 77% of cases, cybercriminals who steal cryptocurrency are successful. The most popular method for exploits is voice cloning using artificial intelligence. Most often, US citizens fall victim to such scams.
