Bitcoin mining capacity has fallen by 27% due to the temporary suspension of cryptocurrency mining

6:18 am, July 15, 2022

It has been reported that bitcoin mining capacity has fallen by 27% due to the temporary suspension of cryptocurrency mining in Texas caused by the heat wave. Currently, the BTC hash rate has dropped to 159.41 exashes per second (EH/s).

A few days ago, the largest cryptocurrency miners in Texas announced a temporary suspension of cryptocurrency mining due to the abnormal heat wave this summer. Recently, the temperature in Dallas exceeded 100°F (about 37°C). Among the miners that stopped their work: Argo Blockchain PLC, Riot Blockchain, Core Scientific. It is currently unknown when the miners will be able to resume cryptocurrency mining.

Earlier in June, residents of Corsicana (Navarro County, Texas) protested the construction of the world’s largest bitcoin mining facility by Riot Blockchain. The new facility will be 30% larger than the existing mining center in Rockdale. The protesters are concerned about the amount of water the company will use to cool its equipment at a time when the county often faces droughts.
