Pranksters made Twitter users believe that Elon Musk has begun to return fired employees

4:34 pm, November 17, 2022

It seems that Twitter users will have to get used to the actions of the new management for a long time. This time, Elon Musk was helped by pranksters. Elon Musk posted on his Twitter page about the return of allegedly fired employees, which pleased a significant number of the billionaire’s followers.

To confirm his words, Musk posted a photo with the «returned employees», writing: «It is important for me to admit my mistakes. I was wrong to fire these two. Welcome back, Ligma & Johnson!» However, it turned out to be a joke, the guys in the photo were pranksters who had previously impersonated fired Twitter employees.

This was Musk’s way of responding to all those who criticize his activities. The prank was successful because both users and some media believed it. Many people recognized Ligma & Johnson as the Twitter «employees» whose photo had made the rounds on the Internet a few weeks earlier — pranksters took a picture in front of Twitter’s headquarters with boxes of personal belongings. Many users believed it at the time.

The dismissal of 75% of Twitter employees is part of an unofficial plan to resuscitate the social network, which Elon Musk is following. Thus, one of the billionaire’s first actions in his new role was to fire Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, Head of Legal, Policy and Security Vijay Gadde, and General Counsel Sean Edgett. Musk also became the sole director of Twitter, dissolving the platform’s board of directors. Due to the massive layoffs, the company’s ex-employees filed a class action lawsuit against Elon Musk, claiming that the new Twitter management violates federal and California laws by dismissing employees without proper notice.
