Human rights activists ask the US Senate not to limit the development of cryptocurrencies
Despite the fact that the cryptocurrency market is expanding at an unprecedented pace and digital assets are almost universally accepted as an alternative to traditional money, the authorities are extremely critical of cryptocurrencies, planning to tighten regulation in the near future. That’s why more than 20 human rights activists have spoken out in defense of crypto assets, addressing their message to U.S. parliamentarians.
«Bitcoin provides financial inclusion and empowerment because it is open and unregulated. Anyone on earth can use it. Bitcoin and stablecoins offer unprecedented access to the global economy for people in countries like Nigeria, Turkey, or Argentina where local currencies are failing,» the human rights activists said in their letter.
«We write to call for an unbiased approach to monetary instruments that increasingly play a role in the lives of people facing political repression and economic hardship. We are not industry financiers or professional lobbyists, but humanitarians and democracy advocates who have used bitcoin to help people at risk when other options have failed,» the statement reads.
It is worth noting that there are also radically different views — recently, representatives of the American IT industry have spoken out against cryptocurrencies.
