The leading DeFi protocol has blocked the CEO of Tron

3:26 pm, August 15, 2022

The Aave decentralized protocol has blacklisted the wallet address of Justin San, founder and CEO of the Tron blockchain project, for unknowingly interacting with the authorized cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash. San’s wallet was blocked after he received 0.1 ETH from an unknown «benefactor.» He wrote about it on his Twitter account.

By the way, San is not the only one who received 0.1 ETH through the Tornado Cash mixer. After the service’s addresses were added to the sanctions list, many companies, popular cryptocurrency community members, and cryptocurrency traders received a similar amount from the mixer’s addresses. According to PeckShield, 0.1 ETH was sent through the service to more than 600 wallets. The list of those who received such «gifts» includes Binance, FTX, and Beeple wallets, as well as wallets that were used to make charitable donations to Ukraine.

However, Aave is not the only one blocking wallets that received 0.1 ETH from Tornado Cash. Key blockchain infrastructure services Infura and Alchemy, decentralized protocols Uniswap, Balancer, and dYdx joined the list of organizations that block access to the cryptocurrency mixer.

Interestingly, the developers later returned Justin Sun and other blocked users access to the Aave service. Later, the team reported that the blocking was automatic and that the problem was now resolved.
