Rio de Janeiro will become the cryptocurrency center of Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s second largest city, has announced plans to become the country’s cryptocurrency center, according to representatives of the city’s mayor’s office.

According to the Secretary of Finance and Planning of Rio de Janeiro, Andrea Senko: «We are closely following the major changes and innovations in the world and keeping an eye on technological and economic progress.» According to Senko, the city’s goal is to become Brazil’s crypto ecosystem in the near future. To develop an investment policy for crypto assets, the city authorities have created the Municipal Committee for Crypto Investments (CMCI).

Apparently, Brazil sees prospects in the cryptocurrency industry, as according to a recent study by The Economist, more than 37% of respondents would support the government in declaring cryptocurrency an official method of payment. As a reminder, the Brazilian government is planning to consider a bill to accept bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as official payment methods at the state level.
