Robinhood platform launches crypto wallet for Android users

5:16 pm, March 21, 2024

The Robinhood trading platform has rolled out its cryptocurrency wallet app to all Android users. This became known from the company’s statement published on Wednesday.

The Android extension was released a year after Robinhood launched its wallet on iOS platforms, making it available to users in more than 130 countries. Previously, the Android version of the app was in beta, and the waiting list for users was open for registration.

According to the statement, all users who previously joined the waiting list can download and start working with the Robinhood crypto wallet. The launch of the wallet on Android makes Robinhood’s services available to millions of users around the world, as Android controls 70% of the global mobile OS market.

Android users can now store, manage, send, and receive cryptocurrency across multiple networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Dogecoin, and Base.

Robinhood Crypto CEO Johann Kerbrath said that the broker’s iOS crypto wallet has been «downloaded hundreds of thousands of times in 140 countries» since its launch in March 2023. At that time, the waiting list for the iOS crypto wallet exceeded 1 million users. As with all self-service wallets, private keys are stored directly in the Robinhood Crypto Android and iOS apps, without access from developers, and backups can be made via Google Drive or iCloud.
