Ethereum cryptocurrency developer gives advice on bitcoin development

3:36 pm, July 10, 2023

On Thursday, July 6, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, along with bitcoin developer Udi Wertheimer and journalist Eric Wall, hosted a Twitter chat on the topic of «What can bitcoiners learn from the Ethereum experience?» The three experts discussed the main problems of the main cryptocurrency, and Buterin gave some advice to the crypto community.

Buterin said that if bitcoin wants to become more than just payments, it needs to experiment more. And the father of ethereum called the main problem of the flagship asset «a very strange policy that he has nothing to do with.»

The main topic of discussion was scaling. According to the podcast participants, the bitcoin community has a lot to learn from its potential competitor.

The co-founder of Ethereum said: «It seems to me that if we want bitcoin to become more than just a payment method, we need to look at scaling capabilities like Plasma or ZK Rollups. Both of these have been successfully tested on Ethereum. Optimism and Arbitrum are two examples of successful rollups (a Layer 2 protocol on Ethereum) that can serve as a model.»

At the end of the discussion, Buterin suggested a promising merger of the two communities.

Earlier, the Ethereum co-founder shared with the community three scenarios for the project’s development: even greater scaling, involvement of developers in the development of blockchain Layer 2 solutions, and improved security of cryptocurrency wallets.
